Company History

Established in 1989 by Mike Harris, E.M. Harris Construction Company (E.M. Harris) has successfully established a flawless record of on-time, on-budget performance on a wide variety of multi-family residential and commercial construction projects. In addition, our company now has added the dimension of construction management. A sister company, Capital Consultants, Inc., also owned by Mike Harris, focuses on lender and owner inspections, owner’s representative work and other construction related consulting.

To date, E.M. Harris has successfully completed over sixty projects including projects ranging between $2 million and $30 million in multi-family residential and light commercial construction including new multi-family projects, office buildings, historic building renovations, churches, and an industrial park. We are currently specializing in apartment renovations, historic rehab and new multi-family mid-rise construction, and will complete over $55 million in apartment construction this year.

The firm has a large group of long-term clients, including both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. It frequently has undertaken projects with complicated financing structures utilizing an array of public and private sources including LIHTC, Historic, New Market and Brownfield tax credits.

E.M. Harris carries all appropriate Workers’ Compensation and Liability insurance and is bonded at a $100 million dollar level by The Hartford Company.

Leadership in Diversity

Initiatives E.M. Harris continues to strive for very high minority and women owned business participation on all projects. Our percentages are usually much higher than requirements. We continue to maintain strong relationships with dozens of MBE/WBE companies in the St. Louis area. Our exemplary efforts in this field have earned us recognition from the City of St. Louis and the Senate of the State of Missouri. E.M. Harris plans to remain a very strong community partner in the years to come and is active in numerous charitable efforts.
